Architectural
Commercial architecture, space planning, public facilities, and residential plan production
Architectural design and production work for a commercial architecture firm, a county public school system, and a national homebuilder, carried out largely as CAD design assignments.
Commercial Architecture
Commercial buildings and space planning
Mr. Parnell worked on at least twenty commercial building facilities for HagerSmith Design, a multi-disciplinary architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design firm in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, in practice since 1978. The work spanned commercial architecture and space planning — building plans, elevations, and sections, and the interior space planning that lays out tenant and occupant areas within them — together with the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire-protection design recorded under HVAC and Fire Protection. The mid-rise projects among them also gave the limited foundation exposure recorded under Foundations. A separate space-planning assignment covered a building on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, laying out the interior functional areas of an institutional building within its existing structure and systems.
Public Facilities
Forty-eight school plan sets
As an extensive freelance CAD design assignment through RDU CAD Design, Mr. Parnell produced plan sets for 48 schools of the Wake County Public School System in Raleigh. This was architectural work on governmental buildings at scale: each school’s architectural plans together with its mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire-protection systems, produced to a consistent standard across the set so that the school system held a uniform record of its facilities. The fire-protection content is described under Fire Protection.
Residential
Single-family plan production
For Pulte Homes, Mr. Parnell produced residential architectural work for single-family houses alongside the crawlspace and slab foundation designs recorded under Foundations — plan production for production-built homes, where the plans must be repeatable across lots while accommodating the grading, orientation, and foundation type of each site.
Note
Scope of architectural work
Mr. Parnell is a licensed Professional Engineer, not a licensed architect. The architectural work recorded here was performed as design and production within architect-led firms and as CAD design assignments for institutional and residential clients, and is recorded to document the breadth of building-related experience that supports his engineering and educational work.
