Bridge Engineering and Transportation Structures

Throughout my career, I have contributed to the engineering and design of a diverse range of bridge and transportation infrastructure projects supporting state agencies, consulting engineering firms, and public authorities. My experience includes highway bridge design, bridge rehabilitation, roadway integration, and multidisciplinary transportation projects involving complex structural and geometric challenges.

Working with firms including KCI Technologies and Hobbs, Upchurch & Associates, I participated in the design and development of steel girder and prestressed concrete girder bridges for the North Carolina Department of Transportation and other public infrastructure clients. These projects ranged from simple single-span pedestrian crossings to heavily skewed, multi-span highway bridges requiring close coordination between structural engineering, roadway geometry, grading, drainage, and construction considerations.

One of the most significant assignments involved the Piedmont Water Authority reservoir project, where the creation of a new water impoundment required the reconstruction and elevation of five highway bridges along with multiple roadway realignments. The work required integrating bridge design with revised roadway profiles, approach geometry, and long-term transportation planning to maintain regional connectivity following the reservoir expansion.

Additional bridge projects included bridge replacement and rehabilitation, bridge elevation modifications, roadway and bridge realignments, and the development of bridge approaches for new transportation corridors. These assignments provided experience with structural detailing, transportation infrastructure coordination, construction documentation, and the integration of bridge systems within larger highway improvement programs.

Collectively, these projects provided extensive experience in bridge engineering and transportation infrastructure, requiring collaboration among structural engineers, roadway designers, surveyors, environmental specialists, geotechnical engineers, and construction professionals. The work contributed to the development of safe, durable, and efficient transportation systems serving both civilian and public infrastructure throughout North Carolina.
